Part 5 - How to install the Windows client WHFC for HYLAFax

Download and install WHFC:

Download the executable for Windows XP at http://whfc.uli-eckhardt.de/

Direct link to the download: http://whfc.uli-eckhardt.de/download/whfc-1.2.4-nt_setup.exe

Run whfc-1.2.4-nt_setup.exe

Click "Run".

Click "Next".

Click "I Agree".

Leave the default at "Full" and click "Next".

Click "Install".

And finaly "Finish".

Configure the printer used by WHFC:

This windows will show to confirm the registration of the monitor.
Before using WHFC, we need to install a printer that will be used to send faxes.
To do so, click "Start / Printers and faxes".

Add the printer by double-clicking "Add a printer".

Click "Next".

Select "Local printer attached to this compter" and do not check "Automatic detec and install my Plug and play printer".

Choose "WHFCFAX: (WHFC Faxprinter port)". If it is not there, you will need to re-register the application with Regmon. You will find it in the start menu under WHFC.
Click "Next".

Select Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 and click "Next".

Type in "WHFC Fax" and click "Next".

Select "Do not share this printer" and click "Next".

Do not print a test page and click "Next".

Click "Finish".

Configuring WHFC for Windows XP:

Start WHFC:

Click the menu "Fax" and then "System preferences".

Type in the IP address or the server name under "Hostname".
Check "Stay in taskbar" and "Fetch received fax via ftp".
Type in the field "Program and arguments for viewing received faxes" the complet path of a TIFF viewer. Since I use Office 2003, I type:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\11.0\MSPVIEW.EXE %s

Do not forget the ending "%s" and click "OK".

Now, click "User preferences"

By default, WHFC adds the name of the current profil to "Login" and "E-Mail". Be careful with this, I searched for too long why it was not accepting my password, Linux is case sensitive, so I warn you: Be careful with the capital, if you created your users in small caps, whatch the "Login" field for capital letters.

Add all the information. The "Send E-Mail" is to receive a fax confirmation to be sure it was received. Check "Use Faxcover" and select "Letter" under Pagesize.

We can also change the language to "Français" and at WHFC restart, the menus will be in french.
If you choose to use passwords with users, you will now have to type them every time you start or view faxes.

The status window under the user name, confirms the server is running properly and that the client is connected.

Go to WHFC properties by clicking on "Start / Printers and faxes".

Right-click on "WHFC Fax".

If you have an english operating system and installed an english printer driver, you should not need to do this step, but just in case verify that the available paper size is "Letter". Click on "Device settings".

Change the three field with "paper size" from A4 to "US Letter". Click "OK" to exit all printer's properties.

If you try to send a fax and receive this message:

Just start WHFC, in order to send faxes it needs to be running. You can automaticaly start WHFC a startup:

To do this, copy the icon "Start / All programs / WHFC / WHFC 1.2.4"...

...to " Start / All programs / startup".
Right-click on the new startup folder's shortcut "WHFC 1.2.4".

Change the run mode to "minimized". With the WHFC system preferences configuration "Stay in taskbar", the application will start directly minimized in the taskbar. At system startup the system will ask for a password if it was configured on the HylaFAX server.
